Morality is a tough one. First I have to be able to discuss what is moral and that will obviously include what is not moral. The morality of looking is an overdone theme. We look and we judge. Of course our judgements may not be correct or educated, but the act of looking is neither moral or immoral. And neither is the act of interpretation. I suppose I could say that the photographic work of Nan Goldin challenges what is considered to be a normal lifestyle or an acceptable lifestyle. But again, this is an easy way of looking at Nan Goldin's work. I believe that a more provocative reading of her work would be to attempt to analyze the viewers desire in the act of looking.
