Network Boxes

Michael Weisert and Kristin O'Friel
+ + Network Boxes

The Network Boxes is a CarnivorePE client. Utilizing this packet sniffer developed by Rhizome.org the piece listens to wireless network activity extracting IP address and port number from each data packet transfer. Visually, each packet transfer is represented by a colored box object, whose hue is indicative of the port number being accessed, and is stacked according to IP address. In this way, every string of objects is representative of one network user's IP address and accurately monitors the network activities of that person.

For example, if you were to see a long string of red boxes, you would be able to deduce that a particular user was accessing a large amount of information from port 80 (the web).
