_gn_r_ is an attempt to analyze as well as deconstruct the relational triad of spectacle, knowledge, and proximity. The installation references its placement in Crescent Jewelers by placing a two dimensional animation illustrating the atomic structure of diamonds within a display window. By illustrating the object’s structure and processes instead of the fetishistic semiotics, its value as a thing is increasingly de-emphasized. By approaching the image of the diamond in the shop window, not only are we able to perceive it as a dynamic process in action but also realize there being almost nothing at all. At the point of where we approach the image of the diamond, dissolving it into bright flashes of color, is when we re-experience those qualities that were its initial charm.
