On Translation: Social Networks

On Translation: Social Networks is a commissioned work for the ZeroOne Festival by Antoni Muntadas and a group of CADRE Students. The project can be viewed in the northwest corner of the McEnery Convention Center (near the Hilton entrance and Starbucks).

The project is an analysis of terminology usage, where each word is given a ranking based upon the web sites it is found on. Each web site is ranked folksonomically by its levels of technology, military, cultural, and economic influence. These rankings are gauged by a system of color combinations, allowing the viewer to gain a sense of understanding by trends occuring in the color pallete at the bottom (for example, the word "setback" leans mostly towards military due to the web sites it has occured on).

Check out some video of the piece.
